camping update

camping update. Camping is located at 227 County Rd 69 in Lyons. Go thru town, left on Hwy7/5th, left on Old South, first left on dirt road, then right, then left, then you are right there. It's a little bit past the marker on Bradford on this map. Camping is on the S side of Bradford in a 7 acre pasture. The pasture is adjacent to the Picture Rock trail.

5/27 update

Seems like the vibe is picking up. The phone at the shop has been ringing quite a bit lately. Thanks for all of the interest! You've probably seen by now that organization isn't our thing so much as putting up some great riding and partying for y'all . Here's a few more details and I'll put more up as folks have questions.

First - if you want to camp or do the group ride, PLEASE RSVP to lyonsfattirefest@gmail.com so I can get an idea of headcount. Several folks have already emailed and the all dayer ride, the uber deathmarch, and the point to point are starting to fill up. There is no official 20 person limit to each ride, more the fact that group rides start to get too big over 20 folks. Limiting headcount at or near 20 people will be at the sole discretion of the ride leader. If we get more folks than we have rides for, we'll break off and come up with another ride (I've got a few more up my sleeve).

Schedule - is here.

Poker run. Swing by the shop at 9 or so to check in for the Poker Run. Your "passport" will basically be a 3x5 card or something of like idea that I can perhaps steal out our desk drawer at home. Then, head to a trailhead (Hall, Antelope, or Picture Rock) and start riding. We'll have 7 or 8 kiddie handstamps tied to various signposts throughout Hall and Heil. I can't give their exact locations because A)it's more fun not knowing so you have to explore and pay attention and B)we haven't hung them up yet. We'll play poker as close to 3pm as we can, largely depending on everyone being back at that time.

Keep the feedback coming, thanks!

Saturday All dayer women's ride

Julie has graciously offered to lead an all day womens ride. The ride will leave from Lyons, south on 36, then back thru Heil to Lyons. Julie likes big loops and is happy to lead it up!

Fest Update as of 5/23

Please check the schedule. Times have been posted for rides, etc. Also if you are driving in, please park across the street on Railroad Ave (the dirt road) or at the Black Bear Hole across from the Black Bear Inn. If you're camping, please ride from camp. We will probably need some vehicular support to get folks to and from rides, but we will want to consolidate cars as much as possible due to limited parking where we're going.

The party at the Oskar Blues Party barn will be from 6ish until 9ish. We will have food and beer available for a small fee. Please contribute, even if you don't eat or drink. Proceeds will go to Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance.

The Sunday Poker Run is shaping up, too. We'll be playing poker at the bike shop at 3pm. I'll have poker materials ready by 9am at the bike shop. Please swing by the shop before heading out on the poker run. Poker winnings/schwag is starting to show up, too :)

CAMPING. Camping will be near the Picture Rock trailhead. We will have signs and directions up by Friday afternoon. Camping is on private property. Please respect the property owners and pick up all of your trash, etc. You know, Boy Scout style. We want to be able to do this next year.

Lastly, this has historically been a very low key event so expect some disorganization, etc. Thats' how we roll :)

About and History

So, exactly what is the BMA Redstone Cyclery Oskar Blues Lyons Fat Tire Fest? Well, first let me tell you a little history. We started this in 2001 as our housewarming party. It was the year we moved to the best little town on the Front Range, Lyons, CO. Yes I am biased. We always threw our party/celebration on Memorial Day to allow friends from all over the country to come and enjoy a 3 day weekend with us. We would ride, party, get up and repeat for a few days in a row. This year is a continuation of what a small group of bike riders, my wife, and myself started many moons ago. We've had to make a few changes along the way. The last couple of years have gotten pretty big - big enough that we've had to split the ride into a couple of different groups due to ability, endurance, etc.
We've made a few changes for 2009. This year, we're partnering with BMA and Oskar Blues to help take the fest to a new level and show even more people Lyons, CO and the great riding that surrounds us. The date change was so we wouldn't conflict with the Black Hills Fat Tire Fest, and the Mountain States Cup Race in Angel Fire, NM. Both of those are great events that everyone should attend at least once. We'll have more group rides this year, too. Not necessarily something for everyone, but we'll have a great variety. Rides will range from intermediate/advanced to experts only. Riders are also free to ride wherever they want during the day and to hang out and party with us in the evening. It's all about riding and having a good time.

For the first time ever, we'll be doing a Poker Run. The Poker Run will give folks a great idea of what the riding is like available from town. The ride will showcase all of the close in riding on Boulder County managed land that we have worked extremely hard to gain and vehemently to defend for access.

The goal of the fest, though, is still exactly the same as the original. To have a good time. Um, and hopefully to be swearing at me on the Saturday Deathmarch. See you there!
